Introducing the 2025 New Citizens Recognition Ceremony Keynote Speaker: Leo

We’re proud to announce that Leo will be the keynote speaker at Elgin’s 25th Annual New Citizen Recognition Ceremony!

Leo is a proud LGBTQ+ Latino immigrant who honors his roots in Guanajuato, Mexico, by continuing his family’s legacy through service and advocacy. His journey began as an ESL student right here at YWCA Elgin, and he went on to earn associate degrees in Arts and Liberal Studies from Elgin Community College.

Today, Leo is a passionate advocate working to ensure others are seen, heard, and empowered. Through his work, he helps individuals find their voice and connect with resources to heal from trauma, hardship, and loss. His lived experience, resilience, and deep commitment to his community make him a powerful force for change, and we are truly honored to welcome him as the keynote speaker.
