Volunteer Opportunity Information
The YWCA Elgin Advocacy Committee is lead by the Board of Directors. This committee is responsible for planning advocacy events, creating new advocacy policies, and brainstorming on what advocacy content to posted on social media.
The Advocacy Committee meets 1 time per month, at night, year round.
The YWCA Elgin holds an auction every year as one of our main fundraisers. Proceeds from this event help to fill any funding gaps. This committee is lead by the Board of Directors. Volunteers are needed to: obtain auction items, plan the event, organize and package auction items, work the event, and solicit potential sponsors.
This committee meets 1 time per month, at night, June – September.
YWCA Elgin Cinderella’s Closet provides prom dresses and accessories to approximately 300 high school girls per year; completely free of cost or for a minimal fee. This event is in need of volunteers to sort and purge dresses, be personal shoppers, help run the event, set up and break down the event, help with referral appointments, and make minor alterations to dresses during the event.
Volunteers are needed sporadically during the months of January – May.
All volunteer opportunities will take place on nights or weekend at the YWCA Elgin.
Most positions require volunteers to be 18+.
The YWCA Elgin Clothing Distribution Center is a volunteer lead shop that provides people with clothing, free of cost. Volunteers are needed to sort clothes, assist clients, and update records.
Volunteers are needed on Wednesday(s) from 10:00am – 3:00pm. You are not obligated to volunteer every Wednesday or even for the full time period.
The Governance Committee is involved in all aspects of governing the YWCA Elgin including recruitment of new Board Members and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors on a variety of issues.
This committee meets 1 time per month, at night, year round.
The Finance Committee provides financial oversight for the organization and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors. Volunteers must have a background in finance.
This committee meets 1 time per month, at night, year round.
For the past 36 years the YWCA Elgin Leader Luncheon has provided business, industry, and other community organizations with the opportunity to honor women volunteers and employees by recognizing their leadership and contributions.
In addition to honoring women, the YWCA Elgin Leader Luncheon is also our primary fund-raising event. Funds from this event are used to develop and expand programming and advocacies for women and families’ economic self-sufficiency with a clear commitment to the elimination of racism and the empowerment of women.
Volunteers are needed to solicit donations for the raffle, encourage the community to nominate women, solicit sponsors, obtain a speaker, create decorations, organize the event, and help with arrangements.
This committee meets 1 time per month, in the morning, November – May.
Each year the YWCA Elgin hosts a themed Victorian Tea event called Queen for a Day. Queen for a Day is fun for all ages that includes raffles, tea, brunch, a beauty parlor, crafts, Name-That-Tune, live entertainment, princesses, and the chance to be a part of the Royal Court. Committee members are responsible for finding entertainers, soliciting and assembling raffle items, encouraging individuals to attend, organizing the event, and making arrangements.
This committee meets 1 time per month, in the afternoon, June- August.
Throughout the year the YWCA Elgin hold several special events and we are in need to people to help out on the day of the event. If you are interested in selling raffle tickets, setting up and breaking down events, working interactive booths, etc. this is the volunteer opportunity for you.
Volunteers are needed sporadically throughout the year but always on nights or weekends.
YW Uncorked is a themed wine tasting fundraiser that includes: wine tastings, raffles, silent auctions, live entertainment, a wine pull, themed vendors, appetizers, and a paint-and-sip. Volunteers are needed to: obtain sponsors, solicit donations for the raffle & silent auction, encourage individuals to attend, obtain vendors, solicit donations for desserts, etc.
This committee meets 1 time per month, at night, December – April. Must be 21+ years of age.
