About the YWCA Elgin: The YWCA Elgin, located in the heart of downtown, is dedicated to meeting the needs of women and families in the Elgin area. For the past 119 years, the YWCA Elgin has been on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. We strive to achieve our mission through the programs we  offer: subsidized School Aged Childcare to working families, English classes to those looking to improve their lives through education, Family Literacy classes to our students learning English as a Second Language, preschool to our Family Literacy children, clothing to the needy, Take 2 Creative Camp for teens, prom dresses to those who would otherwise not be able to attend, and Workforce Development to those looking to increase their employability.
