Cinderella's Closet accepts volunteers of all ages, gender and physical ability. Please read though the volunteer position descriptions below before registering as a volunteer.

To learn specifics about each of the volunteer positions, ready the descriptions below. To volunteer, click the button below and signup for the time and position of your choice. If you are volunteering at the Cinderella's Closet event on Saturday, March 17, 2018 please wear a white shirt and blue jeans.

Description of Volunteer Opportunities

Referral Appointment Fairy Godmothers (18+)

This volunteer opportunity takes place during special pre-scheduled sessions. Fairy Godmothers are responsible for assisting girls one-on-one in selecting a dress and matching accessories. Tuesdays from 4:30pm - 7:30pm, January 23rd - March 6th.

Dress Sort (All Ages)

This volunteer opportunity includes: sorting dresses based on size and color, purging damaged dresses, tagging dresses with the date they were brought in, and sorting accessories. Everyone is welcome, although we do prefer that children aren't present at the sorts due to the potentially dangerous nature of our dress racks. All ages welcome. Tuesdays from 4:30pm - 7:30pm, January 23rd - March 6th.

Event Set-up (All Ages)

volunteer opportunity includes: dresses being moved from their storage room at the YWCA Elgin to the room the event will be held in, setting up tables, configuring dressing rooms, displaying accessories, setting up chairs and decorating. Friday, March 16th, from 10:00am - 4:00pm.

Fairy Godmother (18+)

This volunteer opportunity takes place the day of the event. Fairy Godmothers are responsible for assisting girls one-on-one in selecting a dress and matching accessories. Godmothers will receive the intake sheet with the girl's information, keep track of time (limited to one hour) and assist the girl while trying on dresses. They will complete the shopping experience and walk the girl to the check-out. Saturday, March 17th, from 8:15am - 11:30am or 11:15am - 2:30pm.

Registration (18+)

This volunteer opportunity takes place the day of the event and includes: keeping order in the intake room, processing the girl's information, assisting with form completion, and pair Fairy Godmothers to students. Saturday, March 17th, from 8:30am - 11:30am or 11:15am - 2:00pm.

Seamstress (18+)

This volunteer opportunity takes place the day of the event and includes making minor alterations to dresses. Seamstresses must be female, 18 years of age and out of high school. Saturday, March 17th, from 8:30am - 4:00pm (split shift can be worked if needed).

Runners/Dressing Room (18+)

This volunteer opportunity takes place the day of the event and includes returning dresses to their racks and correctly resorting them by size and color and helping the Fairy Godmothers. The second shift will also include event break down. Saturday, March 17th, from 8:30 - 11:30am or 11:15am - 4:00pm.

Event Break Down (18+)

This volunteer opportunity takes place the day post event and includes: returning the dresses to storage and breaking down tables, chairs and displays and returning them to storage. This position is 18+ due to the fact that break down starts while girls from the event are still on the premises. Saturday, March 17th, from 2:00pm - 4:00pm.
