Joann W. Hartmann, nominated by Food for Greater Elgin, has dedicated her life to serving at-risk and marginalized members of our community. This past year Joann played a critical role in leading Food For Greater Elgin into its next chapter as Interim Executive Director.
As a founding member, donor and the Board Secretary, Joann has been instrumental in growing the client-choice food pantry from an idea to an organization that serves 6,000 men, women and children each month. Her in depth experience with the organization brought a unique broad perspective when Joann assumed the role of Interim Executive Director. She was able to reassess job descriptions to align staff talents and resources with specific organizational roles. She worked closely with her fellow Board leaders to explore ways to move from strategic discussions to strategic planning.
Joann’s commitment to excellence is evident in the time and resources she gives to so many Elgin agencies – Food For Greater Elgin, Senior Services Associates, Youth Leadership Academy, Zion Lutheran Church, Elgin Cooperative Ministries, Shared Harvest Co-op, the Elgin Hunger Summit and more. Joann exemplifies what it means to give of yourself for the greater good. She has touched the lives of thousands with her commitment, compassion and leadership. Her dedication has changed the face of hunger in Elgin.
For this, and much more Joann W. Hartmann has been chosen for the 2018 Marjorie Leonard Award for Volunteer & Community Service.
